Strengthening International Exchange and Cooperation in Maritime Law Education and Research-Erasmus University Rotterdam Visits SMU

On March 20th, Harriet Schelhaas, Dean of Erasmus School of Law and Fabian Amtenbrink, Vice Dean of Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam visited Shanghai Maritime University. President Chu Beiping received the guests.

Chu Beiping welcomed the delegation from Erasmus University Rotterdam’s School of Law. He introduced the university's development history as well as its current approach and achievements in legal education, and shared the latest practices regarding contemporary Chinese maritime law. He expressed hope that the two universities would continue to deepen the existing faculty and student exchange programs, innovate in the training of high-end legal professionals, create better platforms for research exchanges in maritime law, shipping law, EU law and other related fields, and further improve and deepen the cooperation mechanisms, advancing the collaboration to a higher level.

Harriet Schelhaas briefly introduced the faculty strength, geographic advantages of Rotterdam and the unique features and strengths of the Erasmus School of Law in legal education and research. She highlighted that the Erasmus School of Law attaches great importance to its partnership with the School of Law at Shanghai Maritime University and looks forward to further expanding the cooperation areas, enriching the forms of cooperation and enhancing exchanges and collaboration in legal education, academic research and talent cultivation.

During the meeting, Vice Dean of the School of Law, Yin Jun, and Harriet Schelhaas signed an inter-university cooperation agreement, renewing the partnership between the two universities.

Representatives from the SMU’s International Office, International Education College and the School of Law participated in the meeting.
