Strengthening Maritime Education Cooperation between China and Malaysia—Delegation from University Malaysia Terengganu Visits SMU

On April 9th, 2025, Vice Chancellor of University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Mohd Zamri Bin Ibrahim and his delegation visited Shanghai Maritime University (SMU). Yin Ming, Vice President of SMU met with the guests.

Yin Ming introduced the development history, recent achievements, and academic strengths of SMU. He highlighted the strong alignment between the two universities in the field of maritime education and expressed hope for deepening cooperation, particularly in maritime education, international talent development and academic research.

Mohd Zamri Bin Ibrahim presented an overview of UMT’s history and unique development, noting that the university is expanding its focus on maritime education and marine science research. He expressed interest in joint projects aimed at fostering the development of maritime professionals who possess both international perspectives and specialized skills.

During the meeting, Yin Ming and Mohd Zamri Bin Ibrahim signed MOU between SMU and UMT. Following the meeting, the delegation visited SMU’s automated engine room and the China Maritime Museum.

Founded in 1979, University Malaysia Terengganu is a comprehensive university covering disciplines such as economics, management, maritime science, and applied sciences. It is one of Malaysia's 20 public universities and the largest university on the East Coast of Malaysia.

Representatives from SMU’s International Office and International Education College also attended the meeting.
