Dr. Zacharia Mganilwaz, Rector of National Institute of Transport (NIT), Tanzania, together with Dr. Ethel Kasembe, Head of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Publications of NIT, Tanzania, paid a recent visit to SMU. Huang Youfang, President of SMU and the heads of International Education College and College of Transport & Communications met with the visitors.
President Huang Youfang delivered a welcome speech and gave an overall introduction of SMU to the guests. Prof. Huang expressed that the friendship between Tanzania and China goes back to ancient times and that China is promoting the policy of "One Belt and One Road" in which shipping and logistics play an important role. Therefore, Prof. Huang hoped that NIT and SMU could strengthen cooperation of training talent in the fields of transportation and logistics.
Dr. Zacharia Mganilwaz briefly introduced NIT and mentioned that NIT is strengthening the discipline construction of shipping and logistic management. He also hoped that NIT could receive help from SMU in teaching and teachers-training. And accordingly Dr. Zacharia proposed some suggestions on the specific cooperation.
The two parties showed that they would strengthen communication and reach an agreement as soon as possible.
After the meeting, Dr. Zacharia Mganilwaz and his party visited the teaching facilities of SMU such as the Maritime Simulation Center , the Engine Room Integrated Laboratory and the Seamanship Training Center.
