On March 19, Capt. Ghulam Hussain and Capt. Kuldip Singh Sandhu, accreditation officers of the Nautical Institute, London (NI) visited SMU and conducted two-day accreditation work based on the online application of the Dynamic Positioning Centre-Shanghai Maritime University. Prof. Yang Wanfeng, Vice President of SMU, and heads from International Office and Continuing Education College met the guests.
Prof. Yang Wanfeng welcomed the guests warmly on behalf of SMU. He briefed on SMU’s history, campus construction, faculties, students' category, maritime education, crew training and the cooperation with C-MAR Group on building Dynamic Positioning Center. He said, “The center is China’s first dynamic positioning center jointly established by a maritime university and an internationally renowned corporation. If it can pass the NI accreditation, it will meet the market’s urgent demands for dynamic positioning vessel specialists, and therefore contribute to the development of dynamic positioning vessels. Meanwhile, it will also be of great significance to expand the influence of NI in China’s ocean engineering industry.”
Capt. Ghulam Hussain thanked SMU for the warm reception on behalf of NI accredited expert group and briefed the professional positioning and service function of NI in the international maritime areas. He was quite confident of the training ability and quality of the DP Centre, SMU jointly established by SMU, a renowned maritime university and C-MAR Group, a world leading dynamic positioning training institution. In addition, he noted NI accreditation expert group would give professional advice and guidance to the centre according to the 2015 DP Training Accreditation standard.
DP Centre-SMU was jointly established by SMU and C-MAR Group. C-MAR Group is a world leading dynamic positioning training institution with many well-equipped training centers in London, Singapore, Brazil, Croatia, India, etc and 7 among which have got NI accreditation and authorization. The construction of DP Centre, SMU began in April 2014 and was completed in January 2015. The center organized the DP Appreciation Course on February 9, 2015, and the first session and second session of DP Basic (Induction) Course began on March 10 and March 18, 2015 successively.
