On January 14, American local time, the first China-themed session in the history of TRB (Transportation Research Board) Annual Meeting -- “China's World Trade Perspective”, was held at Washington, D. C.. SMU delegation, which was led by Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council and Director of SISI (Shanghai International Shipping Institute), attended the meeting.
This session was planned and undertaken by SISI. Experts and scholars from SMU, China Academy of Transportation Sciences, U.S Merchant Marine Academy and Shanghai Shipping Exchange delivered speeches on such topics as china’s economic development, shipping policy development, shipping industry development, port development in China's green port policy, Shanghai shipping exchange, etc. Afterwards, the audience had a heated discussion with the speakers.
As one of the six major divisions of National Research Council, TRB offers consultation services to the federal government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities. Annually held in January in Washington, D. C., TRB Annual Meeting boasts the most authoritative international academic conference in the field of transportation with more than 10, 000 participants including officials from federal and state governments, scholars from worldwide universities and industry experts.
Prof. Yu Shicheng also visited the headquarter of Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry and both sides had an in-depth discussion on relevant issues.
