On January 15, Dr. Awni Behnam, Honorary President of International Ocean Institute (IOI) visited SMU. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, and Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, met with the guests.
Prof. Huang Youfang said that with the endeavor of Dr. Awni Behnam, SMU and IOI established friendly cooperation and jointly carried out the Master's program on Ocean Governance which cultivated students for two years; SMU would strengthen the research on marine materials & environment and other marine related disciplines apart from shipping, logistics and other key disciplines, hoping to enhance the cooperation with IOI in related fields.
Prof. Jin Yongxing briefed the developments of the Master's program on Ocean Governance, expecting to deepen the cooperation with IOI and to explore new cooperative projects.
Dr. Awni Behnam was very pleased to visit SMU. He said IOI had cooperated with SMU for 7 years which yielded impressive achievements and he would continue to promote the cooperation and exchanges of the two sides.
The two sides also exchanged views on such issues as marine economy and transportation development.
