SMU Signed Cooperation Agreement with UCR

On January 7, Kim Wilcox, Chancellor of UCR (University of California Riverside), Associate Vice Chancellors Ms. Cindy Giorgio and Mr. Hieu Nguyen, and other 5 guests visited SMU and signed a cooperation agreement. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, heads from International Office and Scientific Research Academy met with the guests.

Prof. Huang Youfang briefed the developments of SMU. He said Shanghai had natural regional advantages for developing shipping and logistics industry and was now building the Free Trade Zone and International Shipping Center which offered golden opportunities to the development of shipping and logistics industry. And SMU would promote research on logistics and shipping development and cultivate more qualified talents for shipping and logistics industry by virtue of the chance. “UCR, as a prestigious American university, is strong in logistics field. I hope the two sides to further cooperate on scientific research, exchange of students and teachers, etc.” said Prof. Huang.

Prof. Jin Yongxing introduced SMU’s status quo in international communication and cooperation. Saying that SMU’s cooperation with many American Universities had benefited students a lot, he expected to cooperate with UCR.

Mr. Kim Wilcox briefed the developments of UCR, and said SMU was the first stop for the delegation’s visit to China, because of SMU’s leading role in the logistics research in China. He hoped to cooperate with SMU in scientific research and personnel exchanges.

Afterwards, Prof. Huang Youfang and  Mr. Kim Wilcox, on behalf of the universities, Mr. Chen Weijiong, Dean of Scientific Research Academy of SMU and Mr. Yun-zeng Wang, Dean of Business College of UCR, on behalf of the colleges, signed the cooperation agreements.

In the afternoon, the two sides also had an in-depth discussion on student exchanges, cooperation of scientific research, talents import, international conference organizing, etc.

During the visit, accompanied by Prof. Jin Yongxing, Mr. Kim Wilcox toured the Marine Simulator, COSCO Library and other facilities.

Founded in 1954, University of California Riverside is one of the 10 member campuses of the prestigious University of California system. At present, it has 21,000 students. UCR ranks 150 in the 2014-2015 Times Higher Education World University Ranking.
