During November 5 to 6, the 11th World Shipping (China) Summit was held in Chongqing. Mr. Huang Qifan, Mayor of Chongqing, Mr. Ma Zehua, Chairman of COSCO Group (China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company), Mr. Wang Jinfu, Security Director of Ministry of Transport of PRC, Mr. Li Yunpeng, General Manager of COSCO, Mr. Zhang Guofa, General Manager of China Shipping Group, Mr. Li Xiaopeng, General Manager of China Merchants Group, Mr. Zhao Huxiang, Chairman of Sinotrans&CSC attended the meeting. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council also attended the meeting and gave a keynote speech themed “Yangtze River Economic Zones: a New Growth Pole of China’s Economy”.
This summit attracted more than 700 scholars and specialists from shipping, shipbuilding, port, trade, and finance industries and international organizations. With the theme of “Adapting to New Norms”, participants gathered together to discuss about the most effective solutions to cope with development of shipping industry under the new norms. Mr. Li Yi’ning, China’s renowned economist and Mr. Willem Buiter, Chief Economist of Citibank gave speeches respectively on China and global future economic trade.
The World Shipping Summit was co-organized by COSCO Group, DREWRY Shipping Consultants, MARITME CHINA Journal and JOC (Journal of Commerce) and now it firmly stands as the World’s largest high-level shipping conference, enjoying a reputation as “Davos” of the shipping industry.
