On October 14, Mr. Bart De Wever, Mayor of Antwerp city of Belgium, Mr. Marc Van Peel, Vice Mayor of Antwerp, Mr. Michel Malherbe, the Belgian Ambassador to China, Ms. Cathy Buggenhout, Belgian Consul General in Shanghai and about 30 other guests visited SMU and attended the Seminar on Maritime Transport and Logistics co-organized by SMU and University of Antwerp. SMU Visiting Prof. Jan Van der Borght, Representative of Antwerp Port Authority in China, hosted the seminar.
Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, delivered a welcome speech. He said that the development of Maritime Transport and Logistics is of great importance to the global economy and economic globalization. As important port cities, Shanghai and Antwerp established sister city relationship in 1984, which offered great opportunities to the maritime transport and maritime education of two sides. SMU is very glad to cooperate with University of Antwerp, hoping to cultivate more shipping and logistics personnel together with University of Antwerp.
Mr. Bart De Wever said that top talents are of great significance to Antwerp and the whole world. As an important port city, Antwerp is in need of lots of shipping and logistics personnel. He said he was pleased with the cooperation between University of Antwerp and SMU and Antwerp city would fully support the cooperation.
Mr. Marc Van Peel, Vice Mayor of Antwerp city, and Prof. Alain Verschoren, President of University of Antwerp, respectively delivered a speech at the seminar.
Prof. Sha Mei from College of Transport & Communications, SMU, and Prof. Thierry Vanelslander from University of Antwerp respectively gave an academic lecture at the seminar.
