On October 13, witnessed by Mr. Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai Municipal government, and Mr. Bart De Wever, Mayor of Antwerp city, the signing ceremony for Cooperation Agreement between Shanghai Maritime University and University of Antwerp, Belgium, was held at First VIP Room, Shanghai Municipal Government. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council, and Prof. Alain Verschoren, President of University of Antwerp, signed the cooperative agreement on behalf of the two sides. According to the agreement, the two sides would cooperate in areas such as exchanges of students and teachers, academic research and organizing seminar.
Before the ceremony, Mr. Yang Xiong met with Mr. Bart De Wever, and Prof. Yu Shicheng attended the reception.
This is the 30th anniversary year of sister city relationship between Shanghai and Antwerp. In the newly signed 2014-2016 Memorandum of Understanding between Shanghai and Antwerp for Cooperation and Exchange, the two cities agree to fully support the cooperation between SMU and University of Antwerp.
