On October 8, 2014 ICLEM (International Conference on Logistics Engineering and Management) co-hosted by SMU and SWJTU (Southwest Jiaotong University) was held at Conference Room 128, Administrative Building of SMU. Experts and scholars from China, the United States, Austria, Japan, South Korea etc. attended the conference. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, and heads from Scientific Research Academy, Logistics Research Center, International Office and other relevant colleges and departments attended the conference.
The conference was co-organized by The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and North America China Overseas Transportation Association (NACOTA), themed with Logistics Strategy under New Situation and consisting of 8 special academic lectures and 10 academic paper reports.
As an honorary president of the conference, Prof. Huang Youfang gave an opening speech. Mr. Dai Dingyi, Vice Chairman of China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, gave a lecture on development of the Chinese logistics discipline. Prof. Hirohito Kuse, President of the Japan Logistics Society and former Vice-President of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology gave a lecture on urban logistics organization and freight transportation management of Japan. Prof. Christian Hofer from Sam Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, Prof. Sebastian Kummer from Vienna University of Economics of Austria, Prof. Sung-woo Lee from Korea Maritime Institute delivered spoke insightfully about Logistics on the conference.
