Recently, SMU has received both the 2014 international students from all over the world and students of the 3rd Joint B.Sc. Program in Logistics Management for African Undergraduates jointly launched by SMU and Regional Maritime University of West Africa. On September 22, the opening ceremony for 2014 international students was held at the lecture hall of COSCO library. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, Capt. Turkson, Rector of RMU, heads and representative teachers of relevant departments from two sides, and over 70 international students attended the ceremony.
Prof. Jin Yongxing gave a warm welcome in his address and briefed the progress and prospects of SMU’s international education, saying that he hoped the students could make full use of the teaching and scientific research equipment, and interact with teachers and classmates. Meanwhile, he also encouraged everyone to experience Chinese history and culture besides learning professional knowledge.
Capt. Turkson thanked SMU for the care and training for the students and expressed the hope that the students, as envoys of their own countries, would grasp every opportunity to learn.
Prof. Ge Ying’en, Dean of the College of Transport & Communications delivered a speech on behalf of all teachers, offering international students many instructive suggestions. In addition, representative freshman and sophomore also gave speeches respectively.
