Prof. Dorota Pyc, Vice-Minister of Infrastructure and Development of the Republic of Poland, Visited SMU

On September 15, Prof. Dorota Pyc, Vice-Minister of Infrastructure and Development of the Republic of Poland and professor of law of Gdansk University, companied by Ms. Janina Mentrak, Chairman of the BOD of Chipolbrok (the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company established in 1951 by the Chinese government and Polish government) and Mr. Janusz Janiszewski, General Director of Chipolbrok Head Office, visited SMU. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council, heads from International Office and Seafaring Training Center and representative teachers met the guests.

Prof. Yu Shicheng gave a welcoming speech, saying that the cooperation between China and Poland had a good foundation in the field of transport, which was typified by Chipolbrok. In addition, Polish maritime education is an important part of international maritime education, and there are 30 years of cooperation between SMU and GMU (Gdynia Maritime University). He expected the visit of Prof. Dorota Pyc would further promote the cooperation between SMU and Polish universities.

Prof. Dorota Pyc expressed her gladness at the opportunity to visit SMU, saying that she was very impressed with the beautiful campus, hoping to enhance the cooperation between Poland and China by virtue of this visit, and willing to take this opportunity to contribute to the cooperation between SMU and Gdansk University where she teaches.

During the conversation, Prof. Ruan Wei, Director of Seafaring Training Center of SMU, Associate Prof. Xi Yongtao from Merchant Marine College and Associate Prof. Lin Jiang from Law School respectively introduced the status-quo of Chinese Maritime Education, Chinese performance abided by STCW Convention and MARPOL Convention, Chinese Maritime Law and Maritime Law Education in SMU. And Prof. Dorota Pyc briefed the shipping policy in Poland and Europe.

During the visit, Prof. Dorota Pyc also visited the Marine Simulator, Moot Court, COSCO library and other teaching facilities.
