On May 13, the 30th anniversary of SMU-GMU (Gdynia Maritime University) cooperation was celebrated at SMU. Prof. Janusz Kazimierz Mindykowski, Vice President of GMU, Prof. Henryk Sniegocki, Vice President of GMU, Prof. Adam Weintrit, Dean of Faculty of Navigation, GMU, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, heads from International Office and Merchant Marine College of SMU and SMU teacher representatives attended the celebration ceremony.
In his speech, Prof. Huang Youfang said that an agreement signed in 1984 commenced the cooperation between SMU and GMU, making GMU the first overseas university to establish cooperation ties with SMU. Over the past 30 years, the two sides have jointly completed many research programs, held many international conferences and organized various exchange programs for students and teachers. Up to now, 10 SMU-GMU collaboration programs, which have made great contributions to the shipping industry of China and Poland, have been included in the scientific and technological cooperation plan between the Government of PRC and the Government of Poland. He hoped the two sides to further the cooperation so as to achieve more in research cooperation, teachers and students exchange and many other fields.
Prof. Mindykowsk reviewed the 30 years of cooperation between SMU and GMU. He said that the cooperation between two sides contributed to Poland a lot and was widely recognized in Poland, hoping to promote cooperation further with the golden opportunity offered by the 30th anniversary.
The two sides also had a discussion about future realms and methods of cooperation.
During his visit to SMU, Prof. Mindykowsk visited the Marine Simulator, Aquatic Training Centre and COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Laboratory.
