Recently, SMU teachers and students took part in the Mathematical Contest in American Modeling and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) for the first time , and made excellent achievements with 1 Meritorious Winner Prize and 2 Honorable Mention Prize.

Instructed by Hu Zhihua, Shen Zhijun, and some other SMU teachers, and with the on-site or remote guidance of several prize winners of previous years, 9 teams from SMU participated in a training session before the contest. In the contest, Zhao Yang (from College of Information Engineering), Zhou Jingxian (from College of Information Engineering) and Zhang Mengjun (from College of Transport and Communications) won the International First Prize of Meritorious Winner. Wang Mengxiao (from College of Transport and Communications), Zhang He (from College of Transport and Communications), Wang Xiaochao (from College of Logistics Engineering), Wu Mengchao (from College of Information Engineering), Cui Yifeng (from College of Information Engineering) and Yang Mingchen (from College of Information Engineering) won the International Second Prize of Honorable Mention. 6 teams were awarded Successful Participant Prize.

American Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM), as a global event, is the originator of all kinds of current Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The contest requires its participants (a team consisting of three undergraduates) to finish all tasks in four days, including modeling, solving, verifying and submitting a solution paper. MCM/ICM has become one of the most well-known contests for university students in the world, attracting numerous students from renowned universities every year.
