On March 12, President Zhang Qingfeng, Vice President Li Xuanshi together with other five guests from National Taiwan Ocean University paid a visit to SMU. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU and relative leaders from the Office of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs, the Merchant Marine College and the Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping met with the guests.
President Huang Youfang warmly welcomed President Zhang Qingfeng’s repeat visit to SMU. He expressed that SMU and National Taiwan Ocean University have similar disciplines and specialty and the two sides can cooperate in many areas. At present, Shanghai is vigorously promoting the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center and the Pilot Free Trade Zone, and SMU aims to take this opportunity to quicken the development and research on relevant disciplines. He expected to explore all-round cooperation with National Taiwan Ocean University in the process.
Vice President Jin Yongxing said that SMU and National Taiwan Ocean University have developed collaboration in student exchange, and the interactions of the teachers and students from both sides have become more frequent. He hoped President Zhang Qingfeng’s visit may further push forward the exchange and cooperation.
President Zhang Qingfeng said that he was deeply impressed by SMU’s advanced teaching and laboratory facilities when he visited SMU in 2012, and the current visit aims at helping the students of National Taiwan Ocean University to have offshore internships at SMU, and he expected to conduct faculty exchange with SMU in Marine Engineering, Maritime Technology and Cruise Management.
Representatives from both sides also exchanged opinions on the issues of specialties, shipping talents cultivation, student exchange and so forth.
After the meeting, the guests toured Water Training Center, Automatic Engine Room, Port Automatic Control Laboratory and Modern Port Integrated Laboratory.
