From December 2 to 6, the “Asian Maritime Lecturers English Application Workshop” co-organized by SMU and IMLA Shanghai Center opened at SMU. The chief course instructor was Mr. Clive Cole, Secretary General of IMLA and associate professor of WMU. Nearly 30 teacher representatives from maritime colleges of Japan, Korea, Vietnam and China participated in the workshop.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA and Vice President of SMU noted that IMLA aims to promote communication among global maritime lecturers, improving their teaching level and academic accomplishment. As the only permanent establishment of IMLA, Shanghai Center is committed to put up learning and exchanging platform for the worldwide maritime teachers and students, and help them join and get familiar with Shanghai International Shipping Center’s development through launching the advanced shipping and maritime lecturers workshop.
This workshop is the first lecturers’ training activity since the establishment of IMLA Shanghai Center with the aim at improving maritime education and the lecturers’ basic ability of the application of English in teaching, exploring the teaching methods, content as well as its growing trend. During the opening session, the students paid a visit to the Maritime Simulation Center and the COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Laboratory.
