On the morning of December 3rd, the Inauguration of IMLA Shanghai Center was held in Shanghai International Shipping Service Center, which became the first international organization located in the colleges and universities of Shanghai. Mr. Gao Deyi, Deputy Chief of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Mr. Fu Hongyan, Director of Pudong New Area Shipping Service Office, Mr. Ma Shuo, Vice President of WMU, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA and Vice President of SMU together with leaders from maritime colleges home and abroad, shipping agencies and enterprises attended the ceremony.
Firstly, Deputy Chief Mr. Gao Deyi on behalf of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission extended congratulations on the inauguration of IMLA Shanghai Center. He noted that it’s another powerful action of advancing Shanghai education internationalization, enhancing the quality of higher education and promoting the development of education meaning.
Prof. Huang Youfang said that as the only maritime university in Shanghai, SMU provided human resources and intellectual support for Shanghai International Shipping Center by making the best of professional advantages. The founding of IMLA Shanghai Center would further lift the level of SMU’s education and research, accelerate the internationalization of maritime lecturers, strengthen the core competitiveness and hold dominant power in maritime education, and push forward SMU’s development.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA and Vice President of SMU gave a speech. He expressed that IMLA Shanghai Center exhibited China higher maritime education’s position and power in global maritime education.
After the inauguration ceremony, the “Asian Maritime Lecturers English Application Workshop” was officially opened. Nearly 30 lecturers from China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Burma took the training course.
