The Second Joint B.Sc. Program in Logistics Management for African Undergraduates jointly launched by SMU and Regional Maritime University of West Africa entered the 3rd brand new academic year at SMU. On the morning of September 2, the opening ceremony, brief and warm, was held at the lecture hall of COSCO library. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, Capt. Turkson, Rector of RMU, Ms. Joana Botchway, Department Head of RMU, 33 African students, leaders of relative department and teacher representatives attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Prof. Jin first reviewed and confirmed the efforts made by SMU and RMU for the successful hosting of this program, and also spoke highly of the first undergraduates for their overall performance. He expressed that the first students not only worked hard, but performed well in various recreational and sports activities, which helped SMU win honors as well as add an exotic atmosphere to the campus culture. He expected the second students would have more brilliant performance and outstanding achievements.
Capt. Turkson thanked SMU for the meticulous care and considerate arrangement for the first students in his address. He said, in addition to the professional knowledge, the students had a throughout apprehension of Chinese culture, which was pretty precious experience of study overseas. Meanwhile, he expressed the hope that the second students would make persistent efforts, catch up with the first students in every aspect and enhance the reputation of RMU.
Prof. Wang Xuefeng, SMU teacher representative also gave an impassioned welcome speech, sharing the experience of study and daily life with the students.
In the evening, a welcoming party was hosted for the foreign students who had traveled a long distance to China.
