Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of University Council of SMU Visited Maritime Schools and Companies in Malaysia and Indonesia

From August 15 to 22, Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of University Council of SMU along with another 2 people were invited to Malaysia and Indonesia for visiting the local maritime schools and companies.

Prof. Yu Shicheng first called on Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) in Malacca City, the highest maritime school that was affiliated with Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC), which keeps ahead in the area of quality of teaching throughout Southeast Asia. SMU and ALAM signed the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) in July, 2009.

In Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, Prof. Yu Shicheng paid a visit to Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II). Founded in 1960, Pelindo II was attached to Indonesian Port Corporation (IPC) and was the largest one among 4 subsidiaries. Since 2009, it had selected almost 20 best employees to study International Transport and MSc (Master of Science) Program in Logistics in SMU, which was co-founded with World Maritime University.

While on tour, Prof. Yu Shicheng also dropped in several shipping companies owned by Chinese enterprises and was warmly welcomed. Besides, he took part in informal discussions with schoolfellows on the development of school-enterprise cooperation, which further strengthened their connection.
