On May 29th, the Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment of the Republic of Malta, and Prof. Juanito Camilleri, Rector of University of Malta visited Shanghai Maritime University. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of University Council of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, and heads of related offices and departments met with the guests.
On behalf of SMU, Prof. Yu Shicheng extent his warm welcome to the Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo and Prof. Juanito Camilleri. He introduced the discipline construction and international education of SMU to the guests, and hoped that this visit could expand the academic cooperation and communication between SMU and the Maltese universities.
The Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo expressed his gratitude to SMU, and said that the beautiful campus and advanced teaching and research facilities have expressed him a lot. He also said that Malta has attached great importance to the relationship between Maltese academic field and Chinese academic field. He would promote the cooperation between SMU and related Maltese universities, and expand the academic cooperative fileds.
After the meeting, the Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo visited the Ship handling Simulator and the library of SMU. Prof. Juanito Camilleri, Rector of University of Malta also met with the student candidates who are going to join the Master Program on Ocean Governance at the University of Malta.
The Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo was invited by the Ministry of Education of PRC to China. On May 27th, the Minister of the Ministry of Education of PRC and the Hon. Mr. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment of the Republic of Malta signed the China-Malta Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Academic Degrees in Higher Education.
