On May 23, Mrs. Cathy Buggenhout, Consul General, Consulate General of Belgium in Shanghai, Mr. Sara Deckmyn, Consul, Flanders Investment &Trade, Consulate General of Belgium
in Shanghai and Mr. Jan Van Der Borght, Representative of Antwerp Port Authority in China and another three guests visited SMU. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU and leaders of relative departments and colleges gave the guests a warm reception.
Prof. Yu Shicheng extended his warm welcome to the guests. He expressed that Shanghai and Antwerp were friendship cities, SMU had kept long-term partnership with relevant departments of Belgium, especially with Antwerp Port and Mr. Marc Van Peel, Vice Mayor of City of Antwerp had paid a visit to SMU for several times who was also appointed as the guest professor of SMU. Besides, He hoped the two sides could take this opportunity to carry forward exchange and collaboration in relative colleges and shipping industry.
Prof. Jin Yongxing gave an introduction of the development of SMU and the achievements of international communication to the guests.
Mrs. Cathy Buggenhout thanked for the warm hospitality. She said she was looking forward to visiting SMU since coming to office in last September and was deeply impressed by the beautiful environment of SMU. She would make great efforts to promote the cooperation between the relevant departments of Belgium and SMU, explore new areas of cooperation and strengthen the partnership in the future.
During the visit, Mrs. Cathy Buggenhout, accompanied by Prof. Jin Yongxing toured Maritime Simulation Center and the COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Laboratory. She also admired and appreciated SMU teachers for their abilities of independent scientific research.
