On April 9, Mr. Paris Tsartas, Rector of University of the Aegean paid a visit to SMU. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, and relative leaders of College of Transport & Communications, International Education College, and International Office warmly welcomed the guests.
Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU said in his welcoming speech that China and Greece were both ancient countries of the great civilizations in the world. As a shipping country with profound history, Greece played a pivotal role in the world’s shipping industry. During the past few years, SMU had established friendly cooperative relations with world famous Greek shipping enterprises such as COSTAMARE, which laid a sound foundation for the collaboration between SMU and University of the Aegean. He wanted to take this opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and expand cooperative fields under the framework of the cooperation memorandum.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU introduced the latest development of international cooperation and international education of SMU to the guests. He also hoped the two sides could develop active cooperation in the fields of exchanging teachers and students as well as scientific project collaboration.
Mr. Paris Tsartas, Rector of University of the Aegean expressed his gratitude for SMU’s warm reception. He said SMU enjoyed a good reputation in Greece shipping industry and had maintained a successful partnership with COSTAMARE for many years. Mr. Ioannis Diamantidis, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Islands and Fisheries of Greece visited SMU in 2011, which provided an opportunity for Greece shipping circles to get familiar with SMU.
Prof. Amalia Polydoropoulou, Head of Department of Shipping, Trade & Transport of University of the Aegean made a detailed introduction to the teaching staff, students, scientific project, and oversea students’ education, etc. He hoped that the two sides could have more opportunities of cooperation and communication in students’ exchanging, summer programs and joint scientific research.
During the visit, the guests visited teaching equipments of SMU, namely Maritime Simulation Center of SMU, COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Laboratory, etc. They also visited the Yang Shan Deepwater Port.
Located in six islands of Aegean, University of the Aegean encompasses the following disciplines, Ocean Science, Maritime Shipping Trade and Transport, and Information Engineering, Etc. Currently, approximately 17,000 students are studying at the university.
