On the morning of September 10th, the Opening Ceremony for 2012 freshmen was held on Lingang campus of SMU.
Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council, President Huang Youfang, Vice President Kong Fancun, Vice President Jin Yongxing, Vice President Xiao Baojia, Vice President Yang Wanfeng, and Assistant to President Wang Haiwei attended this ceremony. Leaders from other relevant offices and colleges, parents of the freshmen as well as all the freshmen participated in the ceremony. Vice President Kong Fancun presided over the ceremony.
On behalf of all the faculties of SMU,President Huang Youfang delivered a speech at first, expressing his warm welcome to freshmen and sincere gratitude to the teachers and parents who have made strenuous efforts to educate the freshmen. He introduced to the students SMU's long history of running school and its unique cultural heritage. There are excellent teachers and highly-responsible administrative teams; there are also a first-class swimming pool, well-equipped basketball court, tennis court, a wonderful library, and perfect teaching and experimental facilities in SMU.
In 2012, SMU recruited 4108 undergraduate students and 1300 postgraduates.
