On the afternoon of May 16, Dr. Shiho Tsuji, a Japanese scholar who focused on the study of Xu Fu Culture, delivered a lecture entitled The Heritage, Legend and Influence of the Navigator Xu Fu in Japan to the students who majored in Japanese Language from the Foreign Language College of SMU. The lecture was organized together by the International Office, the Japanese Department of the Foreign Language College and the Scientific Research Academy. Prof. Shi Ping, Director of the Research Institute of Ocean Culture of the Scientific Research Academy presided over the lecture.
Dr. Shiho Tsuji introduced to the students the origin of the Xu Fu Legend, and the relics and stories about Xu Fu in Japan. Then she analyzed the influence of the Xu Fu Legend among the Japanese people. She exclaimed that Xu Fu Culture served as a significant bridge that links the folk culture communications of China and Japan. She hoped that the young generations of the two countries could inherit the Xu Fu Culture and make concerted efforts in promoting the research and development of Xu Fu Culture.
Dr. Shiho Tsuji is the very first doctor that specializes in the Xu Fu studies. She also established a database about the Xu Fu researches in Japan. Dr. Shiho Tsuji paid this visit to SMU on invitation of the Research Institute of Ocean Culture of the Scientific Research Academy of SMU. She also introduced to the professors of SMU the Xu Fu researches in Japan and Korea. Moreover, Dr. Shiho Tsuji had a discussion with the professors on the construction of China-Japan database about the Xu Fu researches.
