President of Myanmar Maritime University Visited SMU

On April 28, Dr. Charlie Than, President of Myanmar Maritime University (MMU) paid a visit to SMU. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU and heads of Merchant Marine College and the Foreign Affairs Office received the guests.

President Charlie Than said SMU had made significant contributions to the progress of MMU especially as regard to teacher training. At present, over 20 teachers who studied in SMU from 2003 to 2007 have now been the backbones of MMU. Commissioned by Myanmar Ministry of Transport, President Charlie Than paid his visit to SMU and expected that the cooperation between the two sides in fields of maritime education and scientific research could be expanded continuously on the basis of economic and technical cooperation projects.

Commissioned by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the economic and technical cooperation projects between China and Myanmar were conducted by SMU from 2003 to 2007, during which 24 MMU teachers were selected for either long or short term learning in SMU and 12 of them obtained their Master’s degrees in 2007.
