Costamare Engine Room Integrated Lab Opened

On March 28, SMU-Costamare Engine Room Integrated Lab was grandly opened.

Mr. Zhang Xiaowen, Deputy Inspector of Comprehensive Planning Department, the Ministry of Communications, Mr. Xu Guoyi, Director of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, Mr. Huang Zhen, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ms. Maria Saranti, Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, representatives of cooperative enterprises including Costmare Shipping, MAN Diesel & Turbo, Alfa Laval Technologies, Shell Marine Products, Taiko Kikai Industries, and SINOPEC Shanghai attended the ceremony in the Lingang new campus of SMU.

Inspector Zhang and Ms. Maria Saranti together unveiled the nameplate for SMU-COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Lab. Director Xu and Mr. Goetz Kassing together unveiled the nameplate for SMU-MAN Diesel and Turbo Training Center. Mr. Mo Jianhui, General Manager of Shanghai Branch of China Classification Society and Mr. Jan Debruyn, President of Alfa Laval in China inaugurated for SMU-Alfa Laval Training Center.On behalf of SMU, Prof. Xiao Baojia, Vice President of SMU, received the donation of lubrication oil and fuel oil from Shell and SINOPEC Shanghai.

During construction, Costamare Engine Room Integrated Lab employed new mechanical and electrical technologies which enabled the lab to be a large full-functional teaching and research base.The Lab provides a practical teaching and research platform for the exchange of disciplines of maritime college such as Marine Engineering, Marine technology and Ocean Engineering as well as a training base for the practical operation of shipping industry. The lab is equipped with Mann Diesel 6S35ME-B 9-boat control two-stroke diesel engine power, real-time monitoring systems, advanced auxiliary equipment donated by Alfa Laval and SMU self-developed control system, management system, and operating system with advanced integration technology.
